Meet Summer Intern Martina Povolo

Hello everyone!

My name is Martina Povolo and I am a new Curator summer intern. I am an incoming Junior studying Journalism and Public Interest Communications with a Sales Certificate from the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. After college, I hope to work in the public relations industry and I think Curator will be a great place to start that journey. I am pursuing a minor in Environmental Science to educate myself on environmental justice and sustainability.

I went into college knowing very little about what I wanted to study, but I instantly gravitated towards the school newspaper and PR newsletter. I learned that I could turn my passion for writing towards a professional career. From there, I decided on public interest communication due to the communicative and collaborative aspect of it. I love meeting new people and working on new projects. What solidified my decision to pursue this career is getting involved in journalism and misinformation research at my university. Every day I learn more about this vast industry and this impact on what’s going on around us.

My family is from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but I grew up in Los Angeles. A lot of my upbringing is inspired by my heritage being a first-generation American. Witnessing the media spin a web of xenophobia against my culture has shown me just how powerful the messages we tell can be. It taught me the importance of truthful storytelling. Apart from my family, living in Los Angeles made me love the outdoors. I am happiest when I am sitting on a hammock reading a book or going on a picnic with my friends. Living in Seattle, my love for the outdoors has only grown, even when it rains.

I am thrilled to learn the ins and outs of the PR industry with Curator. I hope to gain some great advice and mentorships through this internship!
