Hi! My name is Katie Rickel and I am a senior at Western Washington University. I am so excited to join Curator as an intern for winter quarter to ultimately gain more experience in the PR field.

I started college as a visual journalism major and soon became attracted to PR. I love that the communications industry incorporates different aspects of journalism, marketing, digital work and media relations for a flexible career. With writing as a personal passion, I look forward to getting to know specific clients through writing and materials development. I love the idea of writing for the media on behalf of a company to reach consumers and generate more fans.

With Curator’s focus on lifestyle-consumer PR, I am thrilled to gain experience in that category of work! My education in PR has given me experience in writing PR material, so I am excited for real world practice of these skills. With a focus in social media and online writing in previous work, I can’t wait to dive into blogging and social media at Curator. Building a relationship with people in this industry is so exciting to me, from clients, and co-workers to the media.

To share a little more about me outside of school or the office, I grew up in Edmonds, Wash. and have always been an active person. I enjoy being outside, especially camping, hiking and traveling. Sunny weather is my favorite! During the cold and rainy seasons, you’ll probably catch me sitting by the fire, cuddled up with my black lab while watching Netflix and updating my fantasy football lineup. Most importantly, I’ll be watching football every Sunday. Go Hawks!
